Texas Supreme Court rules gas allocation power to Railroad Commission

The Texas Supreme Court held the Railroad Commission may apportion natural gas to meet need but refused to advise on a City of Austin case to reallocate gas from Lo-Vaca Gathering and Texas Utilities to gas-short regions. Gas owned by corporations or individuals is not subject to state allocation. The decision could raise electric bills in the Plano area as TAFCO supplies Texas Power & Light Co.

Texas Supreme Court Affirms Gas Allocation Ruling

The Supreme Court unanimously reversed a lower court and upheld the Railroad Commission authority to regulate and apportion natural gas held by Lo-Vaca and Texas Utilities. The decision notes the commission may act to protect the public interest without unlawfully depriving non utilities of their gas or retroactively altering contracts. Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi sought definite allocations for municipal needs amid a statewide shortage.

State Comptroller Bob Bullock reports more than 225000 will be shared by Collin County cities from 1974 last quarter sales tax receipts. Checks totaling 22268.50 were mailed for 16 cities covering October to December. Meany Praised for Aiding Human Dignity and Freedoms
