Police Continue Vehicle Inspections and Reported Incidents
Motor vehicle inspections dominated Wednesday police activity with ten of 51 calls. Investigations included three thefts, one residential burglary, one motor vehicle burglary and a Timber Forest Apt office burglary. Two arrests noted, a 54 year old for public intoxication and a 39 year old on a Carrollton warrant. Two major accidents reported involving Joel Willeby and Pauline Mounger with injuries and vehicle damage at intersections 15th Edgefield and 18th Avenue K.

Juror verdict 99 years for Alford Norton sparks Judge Tom Ryan attack on Plano arraignment flaws. Angles District Judge acknowledged a slip up over appointing a lawyer for Norton in a first degree murder trial. District Attorney Tom O Connell said he learned the issue late, but the outcome stood and Norton received the maximum sentence. Norton has 10 days to consult his court appointed attorney and decide on appeal. He is held in the Collin County jail.

Music Students Win 141 Medals at UIL Region Contests
Plano students from seven secondary schools earned 141 medals at the UIL Region III Solo Ensemble contest held at Nimitz High School Irving. First division medals went to numerous students from Armstrong Bowman Haggard Wilson Vines Williams middle and high schools with judges from professional musicians and teachers rating each entry.

Seven Plano Senior High School students Eric Amiot Diana Davidson Denise Gerneth Sherman Starkes Denise Hall Dewey Dyer and Hudson Turner advanced from Semifinalist to Finalist status after reaffirming high test performance and earning Newton and faculty endorsement. They join about 14,000 finalists nationwide competing for 1000 one time scholarships and around 2800 four year Merit Scholarships with announcements in April.
