Plano School Trustees Delay Action on Four Readers

Parents opposing four seventh and eighth grade readers and a high school speech book built a 25-person objection coalition. The seven member board will review written objections at the March 18 meeting and ask the 15 member textbook committee to study alternatives before final adoption. Dallas mother Mrs James A McAuley argued the books seek behavior modification to change values while district officials say the titles will only serve as supplemental readings.

Construction Plans Okayed for Williams High addition

Trustees approved final plans for a Williams High School health and physical education addition with bids due March 27. Contracts were awarded for street and utility work near Jackson Elementary, and a tennis court resurfacing project at Plano High was accepted. Some bids for athletic fields and gym AC were rejected and will be rebid.

Collin County Approves Major Grader Purchase and Court Remodel

Collin County commissioners authorize a $46,800 lease purchase for a Caterpillar motor grader for Precinct 4 from Darr Equipment Co. They also approve a flood control weed plan with a $5,390.70 cap and remodel of the Adult Probation Office not to exceed $750, while postponing jail feeding changes, sheriff vehicle upgrades, and juvenile board salary discussion. The vote on the remodeling passed 3-1 with Bailey Dickerson dissenting.

Lone Star seeks rate hike to cover gas costs in Texas

Lone Star Gas Co told the Texas Railroad Commission it needs to raise its average monthly bill by about 35 dollars per home to maintain service across 530 North and Central Texas cities. The company cited unrecovered costs of 18 million in 1974 and nearly 4 million in early 1975, with witnesses noting spiraling gas prices and fierce competition for supplies.

Newsstand Price Up To 15 Cents For Daily Star Courier

The Daily Star Courier raises newsstand prices to 15 cents effective today. Home delivery remains $1.50 per month. The change applies only to street sale copies while Plano area residents still receive local, area and national news.

Filing Deadlines Loom for Plano City and School Board

Election officials report likely uncontested races in Plano with only one candidate filed for each city and school post. City deadlines are 6 p.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Thursday for school posts. petitions require 25 signatures. Candidates listed include Hatchell Place 1 Sherrill Place 3 Herrin Place 4 Ellis Place 5 Patton Place 4 Adams Place 5. Election is at large with no district seats.
