Train derailment in Amherst spills flammable chemical
A Santa Fe freight train derailed eighteen cars at Amherst causing two large spills from tank cars of a highly flammable chemical. Traffic on U.S. 84 was rerouted while fire units watched. no fires injuries or evacuations reported. cause is unknown. Separately in Los Angeles the attorney general sued Amerimex Industries for false gas mileage claims.

FM 544 resurfacing set by highway dept
The Texas highway department schedules over 2.6 miles of asphalt on FM 544 from Central Expressway to Industrial Blvd near Jupiter Rd as part of the 1977 Farm to Market Road Improvement Program. District Engineer John G. Keller notes 4665 miles statewide will be improved at about 40 million dollars with 7700 for right of way. James M. Huffman will oversee. Completion dates and costs are not yet announced.

Richard Rees Pleads Guilty To Robbery
Richard Rees a 27 year old former Brink s armored truck guard pleaded guilty in Federal Court to stealing money from a Brink s truck in San Mateo County on February 11 1976 and transporting it across state lines He wrote a letter to a San Francisco newspaper saying he spent the money on a spree in Texas and the Southwest He was arrested in January in New Mexico with 400 on him U S District Judge Charles B Renfrew set March 23 for sentencing with potential penalties including up to 5000 fine and ten years in prison on the first count and up to 10000 fine and ten years on the second count.
