Jail escapee nabbed after 10 hour manhunt north of Blue Ridge

John Robert Holt 25 escaped from Delta County Jail Cooper was captured about noon Sunday three miles north of Blue Ridge after abandoning a stolen 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am near Farmersville. He fled on Hwy 78 and was chased by Texas Rangers and highway patrol before being found riding a child's bicycle in brush. Holt awaits transfer to Delta County Jail.

Suspicious Fire Destroys Vacant House Near Church

A vacant frame house at 1301 15th St. burned Sunday afternoon just after 2 p.m. fire department officials termed the blaze suspicious. Two men passing the scene alerted authorities and drove three blocks to assist as flames engulfed the structure near First Baptist Church.

Developer Withdraws Plan for Independence Parkway Office

Monday A J Horwath withdrew his request to rezone a seven acre tract on Independence Parkway after planning and zoning commissioners heard testimony from eight residents opposing the project and read fifteen related records.

Collin County approves salary hikes and new proposals

The Collin County Commissioners Court approved salary increases for Assistant District Attorney Verla Sue Holland and Court Coordinator Richard Schell. They also heard a proposal for countywide EMS and discussed Lavon Lake modifications and road quit claims. Bids were readvertised for a used Lo-Boy trailer as no bids were received.

Fire destroys unoccupied Plano home. origin reported suspicious

Firefighters battled a fully engulfed Plano residence on 15th Street after 2:06 p.m. Four units contained the blaze by 3:27 p.m. with origin labeled suspicious. Owner names include Henry H. Bowman Jr. and Mrs. Richard E. Sturges of Dallas. one injury reported a nail puncture treated at Plano General Hospital. The incident prompted multiple grass fires and ambulance runs.

Plano Wins EPA Grant for Wastewater Project

Congressman Jim Collins announced the City of Plano received a 3,398,805 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for Step Three of wastewater facilities construction. Funds aid sewage interceptors, service expansion, and sludge handling upgrades to relieve overload and improve municipal services.

Man Charged With Murder In Allen

Raymond Lankard Barr a 57 year old of Allen is held without bond in Collin County Jail for the murder of Carrol Mulanax at the American Legion Hall in Plano The stabbing occurred at 1211 hours and Mulanax died at Plano General Hospital at 1230 hours Witnesses said Barr and Mulanax were friends and Barr surrendered minutes after the incident A large pocket knife was confiscated as the weapon Investigators have not yet established a motive Additional weekend incidents include an assault seven thefts and 11 burglaries across Haggard Middle Wilson Middle Shepard Elementary Amtrol and other sites with three schools and multiple properties affected.
