Congressman Jim Collins will speak at the dedication of Plano General Hospital. The event is set for 2 p.m. Sunday March 2 at the hospital, followed by a three hour public open house to tour the facility.
Incumbent Murphy Mayor Tom Clevenger filed to run for another term in the April 5 Murphy city election. He is 37, a Texas Tech graduate pursuing an MBA at SMU, and oversees synthetic fuels, taxation and government relations for Mobil in 15 states while serving as mayor and city manager. He and his wife Janice run a 17 acre homestead and their son, and he cites accomplishments including a ten year lease on community center buildings and a water tower project. He asks citizens to re elect him to complete started programs. Deadline for filing is Wednesday at 5 p.m. Dignitaries from HCA and local officials are set to attend dedication ceremonies for Plano hospital developments.
City offices will close Monday March 3 in observance of Texas Independence Day. Sanitation collection will proceed as usual and emergency services remain available. All city offices will be closed.
Plano Independent School District invites parents and citizens to Open Houses March 3 through 7 with 7:30 to 9 p.m. sessions at four secondary schools Monday and 11 elementary schools Thursday. Programs highlight involvement and communication, with school tours and student projects, concerts, films, and PTO activities across multiple campuses.
Collin County commissioners meet at 9 a.m. Monday in McKinney to discuss bids for dump trucks and other items. The agenda includes county jail feeding procedures, sheriff department sirens, a motor grader bid, and insurance bids. Officials plan a joint session with McKinney to consider land acquisition and zoning for the city county government complex.
The Plano Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a luncheon at Willow Bend Polo Club on Wednesday at noon. All members and interested citizens are invited. Reservations with the Chamber office are required and cost $4 each. Guest speaker will be Judy Jordan, newswoman from Channel Dallas.
In Plano 1857 voters backed a $27 million capital improvements plan with more than half aimed at streets drainage and thoroughfares over five years. Results show varied support across propositions with totals ranging from 524 against to 988 for in the city wide election.
