The Dallas based three month construction strike stalls as the plumbers union rejects a $2.40 cost of living raise over three years from the North Texas Contractors Association. The offer hinged on unspecified conditions.
The North Texas labor dispute remains unresolved as unions such as Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 100 in Dallas and Local 146 in Fort Worth reject an offered settlement. The May 1 strike affected 26 000 workers and about 154 million dollars of work at 1200 sites, with some trades returning to work under temporary terms while others stay out.
Representatives from AVM Corp will meet Collin County Commissioners to demonstrate a new electronic vote tabulation system. County Judge Nathan White asked postponement of a purchasing decision until after the demonstration by AVM and the County Election Board review. The commission then postponed the vote to next week after a brief White presentation.
The city of Plano accepts an EPA grant to aid in constructing relief interceptors. Work proceeds on plans for interceptors in Pittman Creek Spring Creek and Rowlett Creek to support flood relief efforts.
Police Chief Duane R Kinsey sustained a cracked vertebrae after a fall from monkey bars during a department obstacle course. He was hospitalized in good condition and the issue prompted a fitness program requiring annual obstacle courses and physical tests for officers.
Federal grand jury returns new indictments charging Nelson Bunker Hunt W Herbert Hunt Percy Foreman and three Houston lawyers plus a retired Houston industrialist with obstruction of justice in a probe of alleged wiretapping tied to control of the Hunt fortune. Foreman says indictment is persecution by Justice Department official Guy Goodwin.
President Ford vetoes a broad energy plan as Congress weighs rejection and a possible gasoline price spike looms. In a separate note, USDA estimates the Soviet Union has bought two thirds of 15 million tons of grain lost to drought, with Continental Grain handling a major sale of 5.6 million tons of U S corn and barley alongside wheat deals from Cook Industries and Cargill.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved three items: a land study for Bunker Hill Estates 46 acre subdivision with 139 SF-2 residential lots around the University of Plano. a revised site plan for Heritage Manor Nursing Home a 146 bed facility on the Four D M development at Coit and W 15th St. final plat for Parker Plaza East Section I. and a Mobil self service gas station on the northeast corner of Custer Rd and Parker Rd.
