FAA OKs Shiloh Airport expansion plan

The FAA draft environmental impact report concludes expanded Shiloh Airport would cause no serious environmental harm and would have minimal impact on Plano and Garland. FAA planner Bob Boswell rejects homeowner fears on noise and property values while noting no definite problems found yet.

Garland council votes loom over Shiloh Airport expansion

Plano Mayor Pro-Tem Robert I. Ellis warns the Garland council may approve a resolution condemning Shiloh Airport expansion, a move he says could kill the project. FAA officials say opposition is unlikely to affect federal funding, while Plano Murphy and Parker have condemned expansion. Ellis predicts court action and fundraising for legal costs, as only about 10 copies of the FAA report remain.

Viking 1 lands on Mars and sends first surface photos

Viking 1 touched down gently on Mars and transmitted grainy pictures of a sandy rocky plain. The control room at Pasadena watched a footpad image and a later panoramic view as scientists noted wind eroded soil and no life signs while President Ford hailed the mission as a remarkable success.

County Moves Forward on Plano Sub-Courthouse Land Purchase

The Collin County Commissioners Court approved buying 10 500 square feet near the County Government Center at 615 E 18th St for the Plano Sub-Courthouse. The land cost 2 25 per square foot, bringing total land expense to over 83 000 dollars from the permanent improvement fund.

Burglars Hit Skillerns Drug Store in Plano Weekend

Police report multiple weekend incidents in Plano including a roof entry burglary at Skillern’s Drug Store in the Plano North Shopping Center netting undisclosed drug quantities. Nine thefts, five criminal mischief cases, two assaults and 11 arrests were also logged, with motor vehicle burglaries and house burglaries among the totals.

P and Z Approves Final Plats for Spring Creek and Lancer’s Estate

Planning and Zoning Commission tentatively approves the Spring Creek Estates West final plat after adding proper easements and later approves Lancer's Estate Addition final plat. Also OK’d rezoning on Avenue L and 16th Street and a Prairie Creek Estates IV land study. A July 27 work session to discuss the Comprehensive Plan was scheduled.
