Rep Allan Howe faces misdemeanor sex solicitation charges after motions to dismiss were denied. He was arrested June 12 for allegedly propositioning two police decoys in Salt Lake City red light district and faces trial next Monday.
The City Council discussed a full reevaluation taking 18 to 20 months with two extra appraisers and two clerks at an estimated cost of 167 500 dollars. The plan would be overseen by an appraisal firm with in house options and would require school board input before July 26. The meeting also approved FM 544 improvements, annexations, final plats, and other items. Ten Plano Senior High civics students observed.
At Madison Square Garden the Democratic National Convention opened with a largely harmonious start as Jimmy Carter moved toward formal nomination. Delegates praised the party’s unity while discussions on women’s representation and the vice presidential spot continued among key figures including Barbara Jordan John Glenn and Peter Rodino. Carter’s delegate total surpassed two thirds and the race for the running mate narrowed among a six candidacy field.
Gwen Houk and Althea Lee search Plano Independent School District to identify children ages three to 21 needing services under the federal Child Find program. Referrals come from many sources, testing is offered at no cost, and contact is made within 48 hours of a referral.
Fifteen persons were arrested this weekend by the police department. The group faces charges ranging from illegal entry and traffic to assault warrants and curfew violations. The force also logged 179 calls for assistance and 11 accidents including a major crash on US 75 near FM 544.
Gerald Richard Meek 36 and Frankie Meek 33 were killed along with two others in a five car wreck in Lewisville on Saturday. Their children, 11-year-old Richard and 10-year-old Gerald Lynn, were injured. Richard listed critical and Gerald serious at Parkland Hospital. The Meeks had recently moved from Plano to Bonham. Also killed were Wendell Wayne Richardson 20 and Joanna Richardson 20, a Navy couple from Arlington, stationed in Virginia.
C L Barnes and Glen Pockrus seek to revert property to open acreage but must win St Paul town commission approval before the Collin County Commissioners Court can act. If allowed, the land would not be developed as a subdivision and county taxes would drop. The court also approved the June financials for Collins Memorial, supported Cooper Reservoir and Channels, and awarded a Brush Cutter bid to Highway Machinery Co. Danny Jack Curtis received a 97.51 dollar tax refund along with other courthouse and jail construction items.
