Plano Bicentennial Parade And Picnic Set For Saturday

Plano joins national Bicentennial celebrations with a 10 am parade from Williams High School to Harrington Park followed by a noon to dark citywide picnic. Forty eight units plus pageantry start at 9 am, awards include Grand Prize trophy and Most Patriotic Most Unusual Best Marching Unit Best Vehicle and Best Horse Unit. Five hundred liberty bell ribbons will be handed to youngsters. Parade route travels west on 18th Street to Avenue K then 15th Street to the park where events continue with games and a stagecoach ride for children. The Texas Travelers band provides music and voters booth by League of Women Voters. Continuous coverage on Page 3.

Bicentennial Salute Via Satellite Reaches 30 Nations

Planoites Indicted On Drug Charges

Joe D. Hicks and wife Janet of Plano, with four others, were named in sealed federal indictments by a Fort Worth grand jury accusing them of conspiring to import and distribute heroin and cocaine from Thailand and Colombia over 34 months starting in June 1973. Bonds ranged up to 500000 for Hicks. others faced 10 000 to 250000. Arraignment slated for July 9 with trial date Aug 23. background tied to a broader probe including figures in country music.

Grease Fire Damages George W. Blackstone Home

A Thursday night blaze at 3101 Brookview in Plano started with a stove burner flare up and spread through an unvented kitchen hood to the attic. Fire Chief Bill Threet said heavy damage occurred to the west end after firefighters arrived at 7 55 p m. he urged older homes to check vents as attic grease poses a major hazard.

Revolutionary War Soldier John Abston Fought for Liberty
