The 1976 sustaining campaign shows $24,520 raised toward a $50,000 goal as 82 Century gifts and several higher tier donations push two divisions past targets. Liberty and Industry divisions report 103 and 108 percent respectively, with leaders named for each group.
Plano school officials will visit Richardson to learn the data gathering process for determining taxable property value in Texas districts. TEA and Governor's Education Resources Commission specialists will brief districts statewide in late January and early February under 64th Legislature tax reporting mandates.
The House approved a ban on covert military aid to Angola by a 323-99 vote, rebuffing President Ford's plea. Kissinger called the issue persistent, while Ford warned that anti-Soviet factions would be destroyed without Western support.
Dr. Thomas E. Bryant of the Drug Abuse Council reports widespread marijuana experimentation in the United States but suggests regular use may be declining. He cites 29 million Americans who have tried marijuana and 12 million who use it regularly, with 18 percent of adults having tried and 8 percent currently using.

Fire officials seek a suspect after a Sunday blaze damaged the pastor’s office at Bethany Bible Church and vandals struck other areas. A knife was found outside two broken windows. Fire Marshal Bill Threet urged Plano residents to help identify any sightings after 10 30 p m and offered a 250 reward for arson arrests.
A 20 year old Dallas man was arrested for Monday armed robbery at Kroger in Park Mall. Police grabbed him Tuesday morning on a Plano warrant after an early morning lineup was planned. He allegedly robbed the store manager at gunpoint as the store opened. A white late model car followed him out of the parking lot, and a local resident with a CB radio helped police pursue. Plane officers credited the suspect’s license number list for quick clearance. Police also handled 38 calls, one arrest on a Dallas warrant, three residential burglaries and two thefts, recovered two bicycles, and logged three Monday accidents including a fatal horse strike on FM 544.
James E. Fraze of McKinney Collin County announces candidacy for County Commissioner Precinct No 1. Fraze, owner of Fraze Stone Co with 25 years in road construction, veteran of World War II, vows to improve county government management and road conditions and plans to meet voters before the election.
Rep. James Collins joins Rep. William Armstrong in pushing to relocate the Denver mint to the Gates Rubber Co. plant, arguing renovation would save 28.9 million dollars versus building in Park Hill. Sen. Banking Committee will hear the site issue in March.
Plano Independent School District officials visited Moody's and Standard and Poor's in New York to secure a higher rating for an $8 million school construction bond sale set for February 17. Current ratings are A by both agencies. district officials hope for A-1 but will learn ratings shortly before the sale.
The Plano Police Department designates Officer Pete Platt as the city's first Juvenile Officer, to work with Collin County Juvenile Officer Pete Barnes starting February 1. Police Chief Duane Kinsey cites this as a first step to better address Plano juveniles. Judge Tom Ryan supports creating a juvenile section and backs Platt's appointment.
