Bond Sale Approved By Council For Westside Improvements

The City Council unanimously approved a 6.425 million capital improvements program funding a westside natatorium and a library. It also authorized 3.265 million in water and sewer bonds this year, with minimal planning bond activity and eminent domain actions tied to Parker Rd Overpass construction.

Weekend Burglaries Reported

Weekend crime roundup notes two burglarized convenience stores, nine criminal mischief cases, several thefts and assaults with no serious injuries. Police report two teens arrested for burglary, plus multiple arrests on license, warrants, and traffic offenses. Two minor injuries reported in two major accidents involving local residents.

Citizens Protest TP&L Rate Hike at Plano Hearing

Five residents pressed Plano City Council to deny Texas Power & Light Co. proposed rate increases of 38.8 percent for residential and between 24.9 and 40.2 percent for other sectors. The council delayed action 120 days and authorizes TML to hire Touche Ross & Co. for investigations. TP&L says the plan funds a long term generation and reliability program while offering some relief later.

Everts Award Eludes Plano YMCA Again

Plano YMCA misses Everts Award for the second year running while posting its best first week in the sustaining fund drive. Don Griffin notes 27 965 raised through Monday, 59 percent of the 48 000 goal, with 18 961 cash. County Accepts Loop 9 Acreage in Collin County

Collin County Commissioners accepted a 72 acre right of way from Boyd Williams of Texas Power and Light Co. for Loop 9 between Shiloh Road and Central Expo. A public hearing on Loop 9 is planned for Feb 9 at 3 p.m. in Plano City Hall.

Hair Dryer Blamed In Monday Blaze

Fire at the Dennis Thury home 1708 California Tr. heavily damaged the kitchen and caused heavy smoke damage to the house. Fire Marshal Bill Threet cited an unattended hair dryer as the apparent ignition. Mrs. Thury escaped with pets. 10 firefighters and three units fought the blaze from 3:59 p.m. to 4:18 p.m.
