Plano trustees approve Williams High School PE facility expansion

Plano ISD trustees on Tuesday night approved preliminary plans for a 56 by 110 foot practice gym and extended Student Center. C. Jack Corgan estimates 298000 for construction plus about 50000 for lockers and architectural fees. Remodeling aims to create separate boys and girls exercise rooms and a new Student Center north of the cafeteria. Construction likely cannot begin until after the school year ends and may not finish before term starts.

Trustees Okay Additions To Williams High School

Williams High School additions begin next August as part of the October 1974 bond issue. The board split on two votes over tubas for the senior high band with Haggard breaking ties, selecting Brooks-Mays for tubas over Cline Music. Unanimous approvals covered carpet purchase for the new building and 11 contract change orders adding to the project, plus sewer work at Hughston Elementary, inter-fund transfers, and mid term staff hires.

Cold Front Spreads Snow Across Texas Panhandle and West

Cold air moves through Texas with snow in the Panhandle and far West Texas, light rain and fog in central areas. Reported snow totals include Dalhart at 1 inch, El Paso snow not sticking, and scattered rain and fog across Lufkin Corpus Christi and Beaumont Port Arthur. Overnight lows ranged from the teens in the Panhandle to the 40s elsewhere as the front shifts south with forecast light snow in mountains and caprock.

Plano Drug Education Program Launches In Dallas Metro

The Texas DPS Officers' Association joins Plano Police, Dallas County Sheriff, and county agencies in a drug education drive. Officer Paul Shirley leads the program distributing a 24 page booklet titled The New Drug Scene Journal What Every Teenager and Parent Should Know detailing harms hazards and risks.

Ralph Elliott Appointed to Brown's Post

Ralph Elliott, former Grayson County assistant district attorney and partner in Elliott and Nall, is named by Governor Briscoe to replace Judge David H. Brown on the 59th District Court in Sherman. Brown resigns Feb 1 to join private law practice and labor arbitration. Elliott is Denison native and UT Law School 1935 graduate, practicing in Sherman since then.

Plano Teen Center Nears Reality in Student Driven Plan

Plano teens advocate a self run center with a teen board and adult advisors. The plan calls for a central one story building, a $65 000 first year budget, and stock sales to parents while teens lead policy and discipline.
