Don Griffin announced at the Vines High School banquet that the Plano YMCA sustaining campaign has raised 15 225 in pledges with 11 455 in cash. Over 100 workers attended as Griffin polled the ten divisions about the drive.
Preliminary approval granted by the U S Comptroller of Currency for City National Bank of Plano to operate at the southeast corner of FM 544 and Independence Parkway with a proposed capitalization of 1 5 million. Organizers/directors include County Judge Nathan E White Jr and Norman F Whitsitt among Plano residents. operation planned in a few months.
Plano planning board backs SF 3 zoning for a 52.2 acre northwest site and expects nearby land to follow SF 2. Two members oppose lower zoning. A separate 213 acre tract is endorsed for SF 3, and various other plats and replat approvals are granted including a duplex request denial and several commercial and school developments.
Collin County commissioners approved a three member committee of the district judge county judge and county court at law judge to decide courthouse closings during icy weather and to notify radio and TV stations. They also approved a $18731.44 utility adjustment with North Farmersville Water Supply Corp on Highway 78. Holiday closings for 1977 were set with Mondays Fridays or weekends common. A bond for Gates Steen delinquent tax attorney was approved and minutes from the prior meeting were approved. The court adjourned into executive session to consider appointments to Collin Memorial Hospital and postponed them to next week.
A Saturday night kitchen fire caused considerable damage to the John Nicolaisen home at 2613 Charter Oaks with smoke and heat damage throughout. Fire Marshal Bill Threet said firefighters contained the blaze to the kitchen after five units and 16 men worked from 8:12 to 8:28 p.m. No dollar loss estimate was provided and the cause remains undetermined.
Jury selection begins in the capital murder case against Greg Henry accused of shooting deaths of Kenneth Avery and Lynn Studds near Plano on Sept. 26. Case presided by Judge Tom Ryan with DA Tom O Connell and defense attorneys overseeing proceedings.
The Public Utility Commission of Texas suspended TP&L’s requested rate increase for at least 120 days. Filed December 22 with an effective date January 26, a public hearing is set for March 1. Cities in TP&L's service area may also suspend the date under PURA.
