Plano YMCA Kickoff Banquet Launches 1976 Sustaining Campaign

The Plano YMCA begins its 1976 Sustaining Campaign with a 7 p.m. banquet at Wilson Middle School Cafeteria under a Bicentennial theme. About 200 volunteers aim to raise 50000 for programs in Plano and the Metroplex with Randy Wright as campaign chair and Dr James Stephens and Joe Mashburn as co chairs. Laura Hargett leads the banquet program while division leaders include Dick Ford Fred Cooksey Gus Geisendorff Wayne Durham James Lewis C Dan Smith Jim Taylor Ron Smith Frank Pritt John Waddell and Linda Kay Sherrill. The aim is to fund affordable quality youth programs and ensure no child is denied membership due to cost.

School Seen As Same Old Cycle

A survey of Shepard Elementary and Christie Elementary students shows varied views of school. Most first graders like school and enjoy gym and playground, while older students cite early classes and dull routines. A Christie fourth grader calls school a dishwasher like the same old cycle each day.

Plano Senior High to Launch Education Career Week

Plano Senior High School opens Education Career Week with a Monday 7 30 p m parents meeting in the Activities Building. The program guides sophomores and juniors in the Plano Independent School District toward employment or further education and assigns majors or vocational tracks with daily study time. Parents will meet with two vocational coordinators after orientation and can attend sessions when their child visits with coordinators through Tuesday to Thursday mornings.

The seven member board will meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday at the School Administration Building 1517 Avenue H executive session to discuss site and personnel matters then public session items include minutes budget report Dec 31 Consolidated Fund Audit board member appointment to the 1976 77 Calendar Committee a Voting Rights Act compliance resolution and changes adoption of 8 million school construction bonds sale review bids for furniture equipment shrubbery and trees revised facilities use policy approval of Driver Training budget final payment for Hughston Elementary approval of an overnight ROTC trip and audience questions before adjournment

Planning Commission considers rezoning 27 acre tract for apartments

The Planning and Zoning Commission has one item on the Monday agenda. Jack H. Brown seeks rezoning the 27 acre site from SF A to MF-2 to allow 16 units per acre. The tract lies 500 feet north of 14th St near Wastewater Treatment, Golf Course, and Rowlett Creek, with about 60 adjacent acres already zoned for apartments. Meeting at 7 30 p.m. in the municipal building.

Plano ISD sets two meetings on textbooks ahead of public hearing

Plano Independent School District will hold two Textbook Committee meetings this week to review math and spelling books. A public hearing is slated for Jan. 26 at 7 30 p m in the board room, with written summaries requested for clear consideration. After the hearing the committee will re evaluate the texts before recommending adoption to the School Board on Feb 17 with first grade materials prioritized for 1976 77.

Collin County Considers Wolf Trapper Feasibility

The Collin County Commissioners Court plans a 9 a.m. meeting at the McKinney Courthouse to discuss hiring a wolf trapper after Elzie Moon of Melissa reported wolf and coyote harassment on northern ranchlands. A public hearing is slated for Monday.
