Reagan leads early in GOP bid as Ford fades in polls

United Press International reports separate polls showing Ronald Reagan favored in the early campaign stages and Ford's popularity slipping in the past month. Reagan opened his bid for the New Hampshire primary and moved into North Carolina, while Ford remained at the White House refining budget plans and a mid month State of the Union address.

Senate payroll padding linked to Austin TV station

UPI reports payrolls were inflated by more than 15000 dollars over three years to cover salaries for at least four KLRN TV workers. Three said Senate Secretary Schnabel referred them to KLRN for jobs. one refused comment. Subpoenas issued as grand jury probes Schnabel, payroll irregularities dating five years. District Attorney Smith and AG Hill join with task force, while named witnesses recount their ties to KLRN and the Senate.

Downing Entreats Time With Family Leaves Congress

Collin County’s share of federal aid under a $44.6 billion roll

Tax Foundation figures show Collin County received about $13.56 million in direct grants for public housing education health and related programs during the last fiscal year. Texas overall saw roughly $2.119 billion in direct federal aid while the county bore about $14.51 million in associated costs, about a million less than its aid.

Cancer test shows 88 percent cancer detection claim

Case Western Reserve University associate professor Dr Arnold E Powell reports a blood test with about 88 percent accuracy in detecting cancer from 104 patients ages 5 to 80. He cautions the test is not routine and stresses need for more data before widespread use.

Police Report Shows Light Activity Across Dallas Area

Police activity remained light with 39 calls for assistance. One theft and one motor vehicle burglary were investigated, plus one arrest on a Dallas Police Dept warrant and one criminal mischief report. An early 2:45 a.m. accident involved a 1969 cement mixer. Edwin Dunn struck Johnny Propes' 1950 Ford near 12th Street. A Monday incident sent John Cathey to Plano General Hospital after his Buick left the road into a creek.
