Planning commission meets amid Open Meeting Law questions

The Planning and Zoning Commission discussed Zoning Case 74-25 not on the agenda, probing airport related zoning and the need for an Airport Zoning Board. Folsom Investments and Dallas North Airport reps were absent. The case stayed on the table awaiting City Council action next week.

Gas Decision Due In La-Vaca Case

The Texas Supreme Court will decide within one or two weeks if the Railroad Commission may divert natural gas bound for North Texas to energy short South and Central Texas. The ruling could affect winter warmth and electricity reliability for Plano area residents.

Garland seeks injunction to roll back General Telephone rates

Garland asks a court to force General Telephone Co. of the Southwest to restore rates to the 1972 level and return more than $100,000 in alleged overcharges since December 3, 1974. The city claims rates were never approved and seeks rate-making information and automatic roll back through an injunction.

New Court Bids Policy Change Speeds Collin County Meetings

Three new faces joined the Collin County Commissioners Court in a business like session led by County Judge Nathan White Jr. Policy changes include opening bids on Wednesdays to speed decisions. The court awarded Cox Chevrolet a $36 657 40 contract for two dump trucks. They also approved a $300 pickup for the US Soil Conservation office and discussed insurance cost tweaks. A bid from Fischer Ford Co. for four Sheriff’s Dept. cars was rejected for having only one bid. Additional actions covered hospital payroll, check procedures, bonds, bills, and staff appointments. An executive session followed with planned further appointments and a likely emergency meeting Wednesday.

McKinney Court at Law Plan Sparks County Debate

State Rep. Bob Hendricks seeks to create a Collin County County Court at Law, opposing Judge Tom Ryan who says the 199th District Court is not overburdened. Ryan argues $100000 to $150000 is wasted and urges delaying until after the new courthouse in late 1977. The commissioners took no action, though Hendricks plans to push the bill in Austin.

Burglars Hit Two Businesses Over Weekend

Cash and jewelry valued at more than 4000 were stolen in two burglaries Friday and Saturday. This Ole House at 1813 Ave K lost jewelry worth 1561.80. The 7 11 at Park and Jupiter reported about 2500 in cash and cigarettes stolen after doors were pried open. Police noted uncertainty on entry and that the cash register was taken to a creek and opened for cash.

Navy convoy to position off Saigon coast Wednesday

Diplomatic sources report an 11 ship U S Navy convoy led by the aircraft carrier Enterprise will take positions off the South Vietnamese coast on Wednesday. Meanwhile Communist forces have driven government defenders from Phuoc Binh after a five day siege, placing Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops in control of all Phuoc Long Province. A certified public hearing will be held Jan 17 for Mohair Council of America to determine if it is the representative body for Mohair producers in 54 Texas counties, Agriculture Commissioner John C White announced.
