Collin County residents will see a New Year holiday observed with closures. Most businesses and offices will close for the Wednesday holiday and all government offices will be closed January 1 with no mail delivery or garbage pickup.
The Taylor Communications Inc board names Jim Shriver publisher of the Plane Star Courier as vice president and board member. Other officers include O.L. Taylor as president and treasurer, Ted H. Taylor as vice president, and Kay Taylor Heimlich as assistant treasurer. Courier will skip New Year’s Day but run Tuesday and Thursday editions.
Russell Yancey of Allen lost his home and belongings in a Christmas Day fire that displaced his wife Sylvia and five children. A following car crash killed Sylvia and left Yancey hospitalized. the family seeks aid via a local fund, with a garage sale planned to raise money and clothing.
A 28-year-old man and his 21-year-old wife died after being struck on Custer Rd just south of Spring Creek Pkwy. Witness says they stood in the roadway during an argument as a southbound car attempted to stop. The incident marks Plano’s sixth and seventh traffic deaths of the year.
United Press International notes the Huntsville prison siege as the top Texas news story of 1974. Carrasco Dominguez and Cuevas died or escaped during an 11 day siege, hostages killed. editors rank the event first, with constitutional convention failure second and a list of other major stories follows.
County Judge W G Proctor will preside over his final Commissioners Court in McKinney Monday at 9 a m. The terms for Proctor and Commissioners Jenkins and Marion end Dec 31 with a new court to be sworn in at 10 a m New Year’s Day. Morrison Liston will report on fences brush and weed control related to flood construction and Ralph Baxter will give a progress report on property re evaluation amid opposition to nuclear power and Texas International crew strike.
