US scientists say comet Kohoutek may reveal solar system origins via methylcyanide, a complex molecule found near Kitts Peak Tucson. Despite the discovery the comet will be dimmer than hoped and less tail visible, reappearing Jan 2 and brightest Jan 5–20 thus fading as a nighttime spectacle.
A 22 year old Plano man William Patrick Payne and a 25 year old Dallas man Howard Windsor Greene were arrested in Richardson after selling 10 ounces of cocaine valued at 50 000 dollars to an undercover agent. The sale happened near Belt Line Road and North Central Expressway. Both suspects are in Dallas County Jail on charges.
UPI report notes gasoline and fuel supplies will tighten in January and February 1974 with prices rising as Arabs resume shipments. Inflation may spike before easing to about 4.5 percent in late 1974, while oil and food costs trend upward. Arbor mentions US gains from Arab investments but energy uncertainty looms.
