A festive event in the Kimberlea area of west Plano brought Santa Claus and his elves to meet local children on a Saturday afternoon. Fire Captain Buddy Atkins chauffeured the North Pole group while kids like Susan Hemphill sat on Santa’s knee and shared requests as candy canes circulated. Additional photos appear on page three.

The City Council will hold a special 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Municipal Building with two hearings. Residents may comment on Spring Creek Pkwy and Alma Dr improvements and on rezoning the city service center from agriculture to light industrial. The 13.45 acre site lies south of FM 544 near North Star Rd. The bid for FM 544 widening is expected to be awarded to Lt. Lacy Co. for 1,264,413.55.

McKinney police plan to question Randall Scott Lindsey of Irving after he told Louisiana officers he was abducted from his McKinney clothing store at 3 am Saturday by two men and a woman. He said he was released at 6 pm Monday near Baton Rouge after 62 hours in captivity.

Six youths arrest for beating Santa in Michigan town
Six boys aged 11 to 15 were arrested on charges of beating Santa Claus on December 7 in Caro Michigan. Santa, 70, known as Harry Thompson, kept his candy stash and refused to press charges. The youths claimed it was a joke and apologized following the incident.

Commission approves two zoning requests near complex
Planning and Zoning Commissioners approve a 57.3 acre tract near the Multi-Purpose Complex for 48.5 acres of SF-4 homes and 8.8 acres of retail while adjusting SF-3 zoning to 1400 square feet minimum. Residents opposed small homes and ample existing retail, letters against the plan numbered twelve with six speakers. An adjacent rezoning fixes a surveying error converting part of Lancers Square Shopping Center from apartments to retail.

Two Are Injured In Two Crashes
Two people were seriously injured in one car accidents Saturday night and Sunday. Alfred Kirsh sustained major injuries when his 1972 Ford overturned after swerving to avoid another vehicle on Dallas North Pkwy. Larry Bishop also suffered major injuries when his 1971 AMC crashed into a tree on SH5. Robert Rogers sustained minor injuries in a collision at Parker Rd. and Canyon Valley Dr. A burglary at Plano Medical Park caused about 350 in damage. Police logged 204 calls for assistance.

A Texan, Jose Umberto Rios of Belton, was charged with heroin trafficking after a $686,000 brown heroin shipment was moved toward the New York area. He was held on $250,000 bail as authorities say he fled when troopers detained two companions on the turnpike.

Construction Worker Hurt in Earthmover Incident
A construction worker, Carlos Ortiz Jr., was run over by a 72,000 pound earthmover at a El Paso construction site and left in serious condition with multiple internal injuries. Witnesses said Ortiz stood behind the machine as the driver reversed, pressing his body into soft ground and saving his life.
