Tax Cut Blocked by Ford Congress Holds Line on Spending Ceiling

The House upheld President Ford's veto of a six month extension of 1975 tax cuts amid a spending ceiling dispute. With no compromise, withholding will rise about 4 to 6 dollars weekly, costing families and businesses as Congress heads into Christmas. The override failed 265 to 157, fifteen votes short of two thirds.

Plano moves to condemn land for Rowlett Creek sewer line

The Plano City Council authorized Eminent Domain actions to acquire an easement on a 245 acre tract for the Rowlett Creek Interceptor sewer project amid dispute over fair market value with landowner J T Uland. Construction aims to serve the Brown and Bowman Branches and a future athletic complex, with federal grant plans totaling about 3 million requested of a 4.5 million package. The panel also approved vehicle purchases, traffic restrictions on Wilson Drive, temporary batching permits, tax adjustments, and plats in Willowbrook East and Sherrye Plaza.

Police Eye Thefts Burglary In City

One residence was burglarized and thefts of mail and by check were reported Wednesday. Officers answered 25 calls for assistance, arrested two people including a shoplifter and a Dallas warrant suspect, and investigated one accident. A 1962 Plymouth driven by Gilbert Richardson and a 1969 Pontiac driven by Gerald Wayne Dalton collided at 4 42 p m at 18th and N. Support Commission reappointed Hargett to Builders Coordinating Board and Gunn Reich to Plumbing and Mechanical Board. Earlier, Dr Arthur Morganstern and Jack Carter were sworn in to serve on the Human Relations Commission and Parks and Recreation Board.

101st Justice Installed Today

The Supreme Court welcomes US Circuit Judge John Paul Stevens as the 101st justice. He succeeds William O. Douglas and was confirmed unanimously by the Senate. Stevens takes both the constitutional and judicial oaths in private and public sessions in the Supreme Court chamber.

Extra Holiday Flights Combat Airline Strikes

Four airlines began extra flights today on routes normally served by United and National to ease the travel crisis from strikes. The Civil Aeronautics Board allowed Pan American Braniff Trans International and Evergreen to take over routes. Judge Atkins ordered a second vote on a contract proposal to end the eight week strike by National flight attendants.

Twelve Days of Christmas Cost Drops in 1975 UK Study
