Americans cut energy use as fuel crisis deepens

New UPI report shows gasoline consumption fell 15 percent in the three weeks to November 30 and total fuel use dropped 29 percent. Crude oil use slid by 1.1 million barrels daily while airlines announce layoffs and other carriers trim flights to save fuel. President Nixon summons advisers to assess the economy as Britain plans short work weeks to ease its fuel shortage.

Leader Arrested In Truck Protest

John Sassi, 29, and three companions were taken into custody near Glasgow Delaware after a search of their station wagon. The arrest followed violence linked to an independent trucker protest over diesel prices and speed limits, with other incidents reported in Maryland and Ohio.

Post Office Plans Saturday Hours in Christmas Push

Plano post office will stay open 8 30 a m to 1 p m tomorrow to handle the heavy Christmas mail flow. Postmaster Billy Creed urges residents to mail cards letters and packages by then to ensure delivery by Christmas Eve.

Plano Chamber Elects 1974 Officers at Banquet

L. B. Showalter elected the Plano Chamber of Commerce president for 1974 with John Helsley as vice president and Nathan White Jr as treasurer. They will be installed January 18 as William Bill Roberts steps down to past president, with Roberts remaining on the board. The board also passed a resolution urging inclusion of a right to work provision in the state constitution.
