Forman Elementary faces crowding as kindergarten enrollment grows. District officials note 730 concurrent students out of 800 capacity, with 24 to 26 per kindergarten section. Parents meet Thursday with Assistant Principal Gary Howell to discuss space and program needs.
Texas Power & Light Co. says customers used a record 4,283,000 kilowatts, up from 4,121,000 in 1975, driven by current customers rather than new growth. Jim Taylor notes rising costs and plans to spend $300 million this year and $1.5 billion over five years on new plants to meet demand while keeping bills as low as possible. He cites conservation efforts and ongoing research into solar and geothermal as long-term aids.
Plano Parks & Recreation announces updated swim times. Public hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 30 to 9 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays. County Judge Nathan E. White Jr. reports Collin County conservatives will back Ford in November, with Reagan’s loss to Carter seen as a factor but local races expected to tilt Republican. He doubts a third party will gain traction, citing two liberal candidates needed for any chance.
Plano police logged minor activity including two residential burglaries one motor vehicle burglary an auto theft and a motorcycle theft. Four arrests occurred eight for possession or trespass and one on an out of town warrant. Six accidents were reported with five vehicle collisions detailed along Parker Road FM 544 Avenue K and US 75.
Robert Morris, president, says the University of Plano remains active from his Mantoloking home. The College of the Air renamed Far East Semester will start Sept 17 and travel to several Asian locations. Noncredit neurological courses in Philadelphia will also run with state approval while degree grants are suspended for a year.
The League of Women Voters will collect newspapers and magazines on September 18 in Plano. Stations will operate 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Safeway lot in Prairie Creek Shopping Center, FM 544 and Independence Pkwy. Call 424-5369 or 424-4927 or 424-3642 for pickup.
In Dallas federal court Willis Nelson is ordered to appear September 20 to testify for Joe D Hicks who is charged with a multimillion dollar international heroin and cocaine operation. Hicks is jailed on 500000 bond. Four co defendants have pleaded guilty.
