Greeley Tribune Skips Saturday Editions

The Greeley Tribune will not publish on Saturdays to save newsprint. The Saturday edition is completely cut, says William F. Lindsey of the Colorado Press Association on Thursday.

Braniff Donates 50000 to Nixon Campaign

Braniff Airways reported 50000 in personal and corporate gifts to President Nixon’s re election drive. Board chairman Harding L. Lawrence gave 10000 and an unnamed officer contributed. Braniff says funds were solicited and 48000 of corporate money was used with officers and others reimbursing the total.

Indictments Return in Houston Case Involving Teen Suspects

A Houston grand jury issued three more indictments against Elmer Wayne Henley 17 and David Owen Brooks 8 for aiding Dean Corll 33 in the sex mistreatment slayings of 27 boys. The panel continues probing the boys' death notices as part of the mass murder case.

Robbers in tuxedos hit Croydon Hotel safe deposits

A pair of well-dressed robbers blindfolded seven guests in the Croydon Hotel lobby in Manhattan and escaped with an estimated 75 000 to 100 000 dollars in jewelry after drilling 13 safes. They cuffed a bellboy and a clerk at gunpoint and used a guest’s uniform to admit others, with eyes taped for privacy. A possible third suspect remains unconfirmed.

Stabbing at Plano High prompts police presence

After a stabbing at Plano High School two youths were involved and several students left or hurried away while staff worked to restore order. Police Chief J B Toler announced officers would be stationed at the school and citywide through the week to prevent further incidents. Mayor Norman Whitsitt said the case is under investigation and warned against vigilante actions.

Stabbing at Plano High School In hallway fight

A 17 year old Plano High School student was stabbed by another student in a hallway altercation before classes. Nicky Taylor was hospitalized in Dallas in critical condition with wounds to the stomach and chin. Police arrested a 16 year old in the parking lot. Dozens of students gathered in the lot, threatening retaliation while authorities restrained them. Officials vowed charges and a thorough investigation, noting one black and one white student were involved in a one on one incident not believed to be racially motivated.

Texas Sets Wide Legal Changes As Legislature Closes

The 1973 Texas Legislature enacts 200 plus laws taking effect at midnight, expanding adult rights to purchase liquor and abortions, loosening marijuana penalties, and altering wine regulations. Notable measures include reducing marijuana offenses to misdemeanors under thresholds, keeping larger amounts as felonies, and permitting home wine production and expanded wine sales.

Kissinger outlines less secret diplomacy and institutionalized foreign affairs

Henry Kissinger proposes a domestic policy for a broader congressional role and public backing for defense and disarmament. He says foreign affairs will be institutionalized, with less friction between the State Department and White House, while continuing as White House adviser. He supports transparency with Congress and aims to heal Vietnam War divisions, travel to Peking after confirmation, and pursue a substantive approach to Cuba and Sihanouk.
