July CPI rose 1.2 percent at an annual rate delivering a 14.4 percent inflation reading, the highest monthly advance since September. Food costs led the gain with meat poultry and produce rising, while gasoline and used cars boosted nonfood prices.

Two people, a 38 year old Richardson man and a 37 year old Plano woman, were arrested after officers found them inside a model home at 15th Street and Shiloh Road at 2:28 a.m. A lamp and drapes were found. One additional suspect was arrested for driving while intoxicated and officers answered 51 calls for assistance, many at local retail stores.
AUSTIN Texas legislator and head of Citizens to Preserve the Texas Constitution warns the proposed charter would greatly increase legislative power at the expense of voter control. He outlines plans for a statewide informational drive and cites provisions for new nine day sessions and self calling sessions to override governors.
The Agriculture Department predicts ample beef chicken turkey and eggs in September while pork stocks will be light. Compared to last year beef rises about 5 percent mainly in lower grade grass fed meat and broiler chicken supplies are up about 8 percent. Pork production remains depressed by the 1974 corn crop with September supplies about 20 percent below a year earlier. Egg production falls roughly 4 percent from a year ago. Rice dry beans wheat corn and peas are expected plentiful and dairy output remains adequate though slightly below 1975 levels.
The Texas State Insurance Board will review possible increases in auto casualty and liability rates in October. An industry spokesman notes the final amount will be set after September data is compiled. A public hearing is tentatively set for Oct 1, with expectations of a requested rise due to higher auto repair costs and inflated claims.
Ten Collin County cities will share about 70 000 in city sales tax rebates from State Comptroller Bob Bullock. Plano leads with 31 537.28, followed by McKinney 26 115.79 and Allen 1 350.79. Other towns include Renner, Blue Ridge, Celina, Farmersville, Frisco, Princeton, and Wylie with smaller amounts.
Two freight cars on a siding rolled through a power switcher and collided head on with a Cotton Belt diesel freight causing a derailment and fire. Ten cars and four engines derailed. four injured in Tyler hospital in fair condition.
Attorney General John Hill ruled that Wharton County cannot sell or close Nightingale Hospital even with voter approval. The decision found no valid method other than leasing the facility to cease operations by the commissioners court.
Francis Filbey, general president of the American Postal Workers Union AFLCIO, will be the principal speaker at the 1975 Postal Press Association Conference opening Thursday at El Tropicano Hotel in San Antonio. Over 400 delegates will discuss union business and attend a journalism seminar during the meeting.
Baker Division of Baker Oil Tools announced it will locate in San Antonio becoming the first oilfield equipment maker here. President Kurt Leutwyler said 220 workers will be hired in five years with groundbreaking before October 1 and plant completion in six months.
Representative Ron Bird of San Antonio was appointed to lead a House interim subcommittee on urban parks in Texas. The panel will craft recommendations for the 1977 legislature.
Gov Dolph Briscoe named Dr Everett D Wilson of Huntsville and Dr John Mack Prescott of College Station to six year terms on the State Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences. Wilson, 47, is dean at Sam Houston State University. Prescott, 54, is dean at Texas A&M University.
