Recession Recovery Slows as Inflation Eases

Blazes Likely Set by Youths Amid Heat Wave

Fire officials report several recent grass fires likely started by bored youths amid hot, dry weather. Bill Threet notes arson possibility for multiple blazes including sites on Jasmine, Parker, and Park Blvd Jupiter Rd near a 7-11, with a third fire under investigation. Firefighters also handled a grease fire, a bomb scare scene standby, and two ambulance runs.

Crime Offense Rates Rise in Plano July

FBI figures show Plano crime declined 1.45 percent from June but rose 30.12 percent from July last year. Burglary and auto theft increased, with auto theft up 200 percent to six cases. thefts up 1 percent and burglary up 11 percent. Police report most burglaries occurred at homes with unlocked entry points and 37 percent of property stolen in July recovered.

Delegates Return From GOP Meet

Texas delegates left the Republican National Convention with mixed feelings about the ticket after a week of Reagan disappointment. Ray Barnhart of Pasadena praised the process despite reservations about backing the nominees, stressing support only if they commit to the party platform.

Plano Police Arrests and Calls Report

Plano police made six arrests on Wednesday including three on Plano warrants, one on a Collin County burglary warrant, one for disorderly conduct and one for criminal trespass and assault from a family disturbance. Officers answered 68 calls for assistance and investigated three motor vehicle burglaries, one residential burglary, two thefts and took a report of one criminal mischief case.

Plano High School grads return as teachers at district

Seven former Plano High School students have been hired as teachers by the Plano Independent School District for the new school year. The grads, all under 25, return to a growing district where they know many staff members and strive to connect with students.
