The Agriculture Department expects higher overall retail food prices in July to September 1975 as farm prices and middlemen margins rise. Farm share of the consumer dollar could reach 44 cents, up from 42 and 40 in prior quarters, with farmer returns up about 16 percent year over year driven by cattle hogs and poultry.
Mayor Pro Tem Robert I. Ellis protests the time and format of the planned FAA public hearing on Shiloh Airport expansion. He cites advisory circulars requiring convenient meeting times and open discussion and alleges the process limits testimony and excludes affected residents.
Police report an outbreak of hubcap thefts and motor vehicle burglaries with six hubcap thefts on Wednesday and at least three more on Thursday. Eight car burglaries and several other thefts were logged. 19 arrests were made including juveniles for illegal entry and other offenses. Two-vehicle crashes on US 75 and Parker Road produced minor injuries.
Plano schools official confirms all 160 season reserved tickets for Plano Wildcat home football were sold within three hours after Thursday sale began. The first buyer arrived at 2:30 a.m., another at 2:55 a.m., with no more reserve seats available. General admission will be sold the week before each home game at 2.50 per ticket on a first come, first served basis.
A tanker struck an unmanned Gulf of Mexico platform and caught fire forcing 46 crew to abandon ship. Coast Guard and nearby vessels rescued four. ten survivors were injured, two seriously. The Globuk Sun bound for Galveston from the Bahamas leaked a two mile long oil slick, with a port bow hole on fire.
Adult Basic Education GED English as a Second Language and Citizenship classes restart Tuesday Aug 19 at Williams High School 1717 17th St Plano. Washington reports Assistant Commerce Secretary James Pate predicting major improvements in unemployment and factory production within four months. He cites inventory reductions, rising retail and wholesale backroom stocks, and continued consumer demand as signs the economic recovery is ahead of schedule.
Police in Lake Charles seek a Houston resident in a daylight shooting at an east side grocery store. Two men Willie L. Johnson 51 and Horace Redeau 24 died after a blast from a sawed off shotgun following a money dispute. The suspect fled the scene.
Sen A M Aikin Jr appoints Rep Lyndon Olson Jr to chair a joint legislative subcommittee to study implementing the judiciary and local government articles of the proposed Texas Constitution. If voters approve any article in the November 4 special election, the legislature will convene next January to implement them. Aikin also chairs a House Senate committee to study proposals for the legislature.
