Central Gets Facelift In Night Operation

Relief is on the way for bumpy North Central Expressway as 13.8 miles from downtown Dallas to the Collin County line will be resurfaced starting Sunday night. Eisenhour Construction Co will work nights 8 30 p m to 6 a m Sunday through Thursday with no daytime or weekend work to limit disruption. The project introduces a Rotomill pass to remove asphalt and texture concrete in one step for high skid resistance, a first in the U S. Sections will close in one direction, traffic diverted to service roads with a 40 mph limit, and heavy signaling and patrols planned for motorist safety and worker protection.

Arsonist Gets Probation For Plano Home Blaze

Joe Lee Hall admitted setting a Plano house on fire last August and received 10 years probation with restitution of 4482. Fire Marshal Bill Threet noted severe damage to the southeast bedroom and nearby areas at 1808 Armstrong. Firefighters found a lighter near the blaze and a gasoline bottle. Hall bore a burn when arrested hours after the 12 16 a m fire. The home belonged to Linda Green, Hall’s common law wife, who had bought his share before the fire.

Butcher of Riga Nazi Fugitive Dies in Paraguay

In Asuncion Paraguay a man believed to be Nazi SS captain Eduard Roschmann known as the Butcher of Riga died in a pauper hospital. West German authorities seek confirmation via fingerprints and documents. the death ends a decades long manhunt tied to the killings of about 40,000 Jews in Riga.

Paper Drive To Benefit World Service

The Plano YMCA and Christ United Methodist Church sponsor a weekend paper drive to raise funds for the Y's World Service program aiding 88 countries and disaster relief. A trailer at 2640 Glencliff will accept newspapers magazines IBM paper and other paper. bundles should be sorted.

Robber Threatens Parker Custer 7 11 Robbery

An 18 year old clerk at the Parker Custer 7 11 reported a man in his early 20s robbed her at 2 40 am with threats of force. The suspect described as five foot ten and 160 pounds fled with about 150 dollars. Police arrived three minutes later with no suspect.
