Plano Considers 12 Cent Tax Increase and Fees

New Telephone Rates Set By Irving Council

The Irving council approved an emergency ordinance imposing General Telephone Co rates in Irving after the firm pressed for immediate Plano rate increases. The ordinance raises residential lines to 9.40, two party lines to 7, four party lines stay at 6.30, residential extensions to 1.50, business lines to 25.15, with a sliding scale toward an average 33.62 for key lines. Garland rates: 9.60 for residential, while other charges shift modestly. The move accompanies zoning actions and bids on local road projects and a new SF-2 subdivision.

Parlor Owner Bristo Shot Dead in Garland

Monty Bristo founder of the Plantation Massage Parlor on Preston Road was shot at about 6 pm Monday after an argument over back wages. An 18 year old former employee and a woman companion fled. the former surrendered early today. The shooter remains at large.

Tax Roll Approved In Collin County Increases Near 300 Million

Collin County Commissioners approved a new tax roll showing the valuation rising by about 300 million dollars bringing the total to 525.54 million. County Judge Nathan White said the state rate remains 12 cents per 100, while the county rate of 1.35 could drop due to higher valuations. Various items were approved including road surface work for 73 thousand, election judges for November, and a basic phone system for the new courthouse.
