Taft Address Draws Crowds at Taft City Meeting
Taft addressed a packed Plainfield High School auditorium with thousands outside, backing a letter to President Wilson urging tough action against Germany. Mayor Calkins praised the unity, while patriotic songs and leaflets circulated. Taft spoke briefly from New York before delivering the main address. The event underscored strong support for severing diplomatic relations with Germany and empowering the President to use force if needed.
