A wandering soldier from France is greeted at the Red Cross shop where two Red Cross girls support him to a table. He receives food and drink while a visiting mother recalls fallen kin, and local merchants are thanked for donations that sustain Red Cross aid and comfort for returning servicemen.
A long blocked nine inch strip along DeKalb avenue, once left to force an outlet via Greenbrook, is sold to the city. The purchase enables open frontage on DeKalb and Front streets, clearing the way to develop the former Plain Sanitary Disposal Company site into building lots with potential thousands of dollars in profit.

Juan Hylkena a baker employed by John Jirby was badly injured when his left arm got caught in a mixing machine at the lattr's bake shop. He was taken to Muhlenberg Hospital where doctors amputated two middle fingers and treated the rest of the arm. The patient’s home is 367 Somerset Street and he was resting easily after the operation.

Isabel Ragfe's funeral occurred Wednesday at her daughter Laing's home in Washington. The service was private. Mrs Milne, 67, left behind daughters Wilton of Denver and two former councilmen Alexander Milne and La Milne, both of the borough. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Brook.
Simon family notes three brothers serving in World War I. Les Simon, repairman from 79 North Avenue, discharged and back in Plainfield. Simons from 1418 South Avenue, sent overseas with Company D 209th Infantry, shell shock and hospital recovery reported. another brother in Marine service aboard an expeditionary transport crew sailing for France.

Officials for both sides had met with a workers committee led by Hartpence Caulfield and Gardner.

Santa Claus, animated cartoons, a magician and ventriloquism will delight hundreds while funds aid the Children's Home and the poor. Tickets are 25 cents at Miller's drug store or the high school.
A Plainfield rally promotes Red Cross support with a citywide pledge to gather 15 000 names to form a wreath for the Greatest Mother in the World. Captain Sterling Beardsley will speak at the High School Auditorium as part of the campaign.
William Winkelholz Jr son of ea and Catherine Winkel of New Brunswick Avenue died this morning at age twenty three. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
The funeral for Joseph William Morton Jr. who died in St Mark's Hospital New York will be held tonight at his late residence. Family and friends are invited to attend the services and burial arrangements will follow.
