Fundraising has reached 225 of 560 needed with many local groups and individuals contributing including the Business Men's Association and Knights of Columbus.
The Netherwood Residents' Association announced judges for the Home Garden show to be held Saturday afternoon in St Stephen's parish house. David is seen as a vegetable prize authority with junior entries. Charles L. Stanley will award prizes for floral and vegetable displays. Grown-ups compete in plant and flower displays with blue and red ribbons. Continuous show from 3 to 6 PM. admission free. The event aims to attract Plainfield residents and may become an annual, larger affair. Automobiles available for hire from Hudson Livery.
A large crowd attended the Send-On affair in the borough with a parade led by the Home Defense League and Civil War veterans. Mayor Smalley hosted as toastmaster and conferred engraved farewell rings on conscripts. Visitors from Oakland, Mrs Joseph Boberg and Miss Helen Boberg, praised Plainfield before returning to California.

The Plainfield Business Men's Association asks merchants to close next Tuesday at an earlier hour to allow participants in the conscripts parade and others to reach their homes. The idea extends to merchants not in the association to keep the citywide closure.
