Red Cross nurse Lilla M. Hescock reports extensive school health work across 45 county schools. Over 3,241 pupils were weighed and examined, with 601 vision, 94 hearing, 1,111 dental, and 242 nasal obstruction defects found. follow up with physicians and dentists planned.
Local churches in Plainfield consider starting a Daily Vacation Bible School to boost Bible study during summer. A committee from seven churches met at Friends Garden with another meeting planned at the Baptist church to discuss feasibility.
The relocation project hinges on the type of reformatory to build. Governor McCray and the reformatory relocation commission have selected Pendleton as the site. A key issue is whether the reformatory should be walled in and how closely buildings should follow conventional prison designs. The 1,036 acre tract was bought for $174,700.00.
Contracts awarded Wednesday for paving five gaps on the National Road. The westernmost gap, ten miles west of Plainfield to the Marion county line, was let to Williamsie Little Co. for 271,589.65 dollars.
R G Edwards has been laid up five weeks with a double hip break and began sitting up last week. He is making rapid progress toward recovery. Other Edwards family members who have been ill are convalescent.
A regular Guilford township farmers meeting was held at the library Wednesday evening. Everett Newlin spoke on orchard care and C. M. Hobbs gave a talk titled Some Experiences.
NYswander Post of the American Legion hires a radio expert to install a wireless receiving set for a public concert at the Plainfield Opera House next Tuesday. The program will be published in the Indianapolis News and heard via stations in Indianapolis Detroit Pittsburg Newark and Springfield Mass starting at eight. Admission is 25 cents and boys may ask questions before the program.
The Martinsville squad suffers its first sectional defeat and its first loss on the road in sectionals as Pittsboro shows balanced play and a refined style. Eminence Paragon Swain Salee are cited as strong opponents in the regional recount. Martinsville previously won on its home floor but loses on a neutral or opponent venue.
The Friday Club schedules an all day meeting March 16 at Mrs. Horace L. Hanna home. Union Home Economics Class activities are mapped for April through January by a committee incl Mrs. R. W. Townsend, Mrs. George Jessup and Mrs. Orlando Atkinson. The Corner Club prepares programs with Miss Dix millinery demonstration March 15 at Mrs. Frank Sturgeon’s. A Woman's Club meeting at the library March 11 will feature an out of town speaker and local music.
The Junior class presents the three act comedy Fifty Fifty at the opera house next Thursday evening March 16. Cast includes Dawson Price Joel Jessup Albertio Pike Elizabeth Brewer Lois Mona Rush ton Margaret Inman Julia Dickson Paul Franklin Joseph Marley and Mildred Smith. The plot follows artist and author sharing a Fifty Fifty plan and antics with a proxy wife and lively Irish humor. The grade school operetta On Midsummer s Day will be shown Friday March 10.
The I. O. F. hall has a new coat of brown paint on walls and stairs. The refreshed interior aims to improve appearance and invite more people to ascend to the upper rooms and attend lodge meetings.
William Chandler aged seventy died early Saturday at St. Vincent hospital Indianapolis from euremic poisoning after a Friday afternoon operation. Born near Fairfield he farmed many years and moved to Plainfield seven years ago joining the local Friends church. Funeral Monday at Fairfield Friends Church with Rev. Herbert L. Huffman officiating. Interment at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews Frank Kellum Walter Kellum Wilbur Kellum Charles R. Hadley Emil Hadley George Hadley. Survived by widow formerly Ruby Vestal. Out-of-town mourners included Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Welch of Harveysburg Ohio BR J. Vestal and daughter Julia and Mr. and Mrs. John Furm.
The state department of the American Legion designates Sunday, April 2, as American Legion Go-To-Church Day. It urges all Indiana Legion members who can attend church to do so and asks posts to arrange transport for disabled veterans lacking a ride to the church of their choice.

The Ladies' Aid of the Christian church will entertain church members and families at the library on Friday evening March 17. Supper will be served at six thirty and followed by a social evening. Each family will bring a part of the supper.
Despite bad weather a large percentage of enrollees at the Community Training School attended last Monday night. Each class reported excellent work.
Pittsboro defeated Martinsville 22 to 21 to clinch the sectional basketball title at Mooresville. Clayton edged Morgantown 21-18, while Litton crushed New Winchester 57-3 and Danville beat Amo 31-23. Pittsboro advances to face Manual of Indianapolis at Bloomington with hopes for a state finals berth.
