Legion Secures New Quarters and Hoosier Bird King Tonight

The American Legion post leases the second floor of the K P Building for a year, plans four rooms as club and assembly space, and will host high class entertainments including Herbert Stockton the Hoosier Bird King tonight with the high school orchestra. A Women’s Auxiliary is to be organized with a meeting Monday night at 7 30 at the Wapukewa Club House for officers and preliminary business. A joint Legion and business men meeting is set for Tuesday at 2 30 at the club house.

Obituary for John Douglass Civil War Veteran of Brownsburg

John Douglass born near Brownsburg August 16 1846 died February 26 1921 aged 74 years 6 months 10 days He married Mary Susan Montgomery July 5 1871 who died April 3 1910 They had four children one died in infancy Surviving children are Harry E Douglass Cleveland Ohio Minnie Barlow Plainfield Nellie Jackson Indianapolis and seven grandchildren He united with the Christian church in Brownsburg and served in the Civil War joining March 18 1864 in Company A 51st Indiana Volunteers discharged December 1865

Men’s Banquet Hosted by M. E. Church Ladies Aid

The Men’s Missionary Society members and constituents were entertained by the Ladies’ Aid Society last Friday. An elegant dinner was served and praised by the men. After-dinner speeches were delivered by Fred Calbert Rev Meridith and guests Charles Calbert H R Carter and Frank Johnston.

Civil War veteran John Douglass dies in Indianapolis

John Douglass age 74 died of heart trouble at City Hospital Indianapolis after several weeks illness. He served in the Indiana Infantry Company A during the Civil War. A painter by trade, he lived most of his life in Plainfield and is survived by three children Harry of Cleveland Nellie Jackson of Indianapolis and Mrs Henry Barlow of this place. Funeral services were held at Rushton's chapel with Rev S L Hssick officiating and pallbearers listed. Burial followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Died After Months of Illness Mrs Gladys Pike

Mrs Gladys Pike age 29 wife of Virgil Pike and daughter of Mr and Mrs C L Hadley died Friday evening of tuberculosis after months of illness She was born in Nebraska City Nebraska and lived in or near Plainfield Indiana Survived by husband son Charles parents and two sisters The service was Monday afternoon at home conducted by Rev Audrey Moore Interment at Maple Hill Cemetery with pallbearers and music provided by local residents.

Gladys Hadley Pike Remembered in Plainfield Memorial

Gladys Hadley Pike, born September 24 1891 in Nebraska City Nebraska, lived most of her life near Plainfield Indiana. A Christian teacher and wife she died February 25 1921 after illness leaving husband Virgil and son with family and friends.

Among the Clubs General Club Meeting and Letters

The Women’s Club guest day is set for Saturday March 12 at the library with Home Economics Department providing the program. The Union Home Economics Class notes were printed by Messenger Printing Company. Mrs D W Gossett heads the club with Effie Hadley, Hallie McAninch, Isaac Atkinson, and Marietta Gerdner in officers roles. The Three Arts Department met at Mrs Fannie Cox’s home with Lois Mona and Marcia Dena Rushton performing. Mrs George Mercer discussed Charles Lee Cook of Louisville who overcame disability to achieve many feats. Mr Cook described his 37 000 word vocabulary and mechanical skills and boat design to minimize draft. Mrs Osborn spoke on women inventors.

Aunt Doss Fogleman Dies in Plainfield at 82

Ladosca Fogleman aged 82 died of dropsy and pneumonia Thursday at her niece Mrs. Frank Ellis home. Born March 11, 1839 in Hendricks county she spent life around Plainfield. Survived by brother Wm. Fogleman of Indianapolis and many relatives. Funeral at M. E. church Saturday by Rev. Meridith. Burial at Mooresville cemetery.

C M Hobbs purchases several acres on East Main Street once the Hacker property and plans to build a home. The existing house on the lot is bought by Don Douglass and will be moved to his newly acquired Baxter Havens lot.
