Farmers to Debate State Tax Amendments at Library
Guilford Township Farmers Federation will host a public meeting at the library on Wednesday August 10 at 8 pm to discuss two proposed constitutional amendments. Charles L. Mendenhall and Everitt Newlin will speak for the affirmative and Dr E T Davis and George E Mercer for the negative. The amendments cover a system of taxation and an income tax. The special election to vote on these and two others is set for September 6. The meeting is open to all, with farmers urged to study the amendments beforehand.

Missionary Society Entertains in Mooresville Meeting
The Mooresville Friends Missionary Society hosted about seventy five Plainfield Friends Missionary Society members in a year long paid-up membership contest closing at Mooresville Friends Church. The program featured solo performances by Hartsock Hadley Sellars, a duet by Sellars and Hartsock, plus Mrs Newman describing a China visit with Chinese curios. Sixteen Mooresville ladies performed a period play, followed by punch and wafers and a social hour.

Two soldiers laid to rest this week in Plainfield after serving in France. Howard Head, 25, killed July 23, 1918, trained at Camp Shelby and fought with Company C 152d Infantry overseas. Funeral at home of sister Mrs John Tucker. American Legion and G A R provided services at Maple Hill Cemetery. bugler John Godfrey sounded taps. Surviving Head include father John Head, six sisters and three brothers.

Charles Caplinger aged 25 died in the Chateau Thierry battle on July 28 1918 after training at Camp Taylor Camp Shelby and Camp Merritt He landed in France in July and fell two weeks later Funeral services were held at Friendswood M E Church with burial by the Wayne Post American Legion at Fairfield Cemetery Indiana Boys' School provided music Survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs John Caplinger sisters Madge Conway Mildred Bean and brother Russell Caplinger who was at a military camp in Kansas.
