A large Republican mass meeting in Music Hall featured speeches by Charles Fowler and Hon. Horr. Mayor Gilbert presided as receipts and officers were announced, with notable audience including Democrats. Fowler argued against Democratic tariff policy and praised Republican protection. Horr criticized free trade and defended McKinley era policy amid an energetic rally.
A North Plainfield meeting chose delegates to the County Convention in Somerville. John A. Thickston chaired the opening, with Ed Morse and J. A. Thickston leading First and Second District sessions to appoint delegates including Wm Townley Geo Demarest L Kline Dr Carney Jas Newman Henry Woodland and others. Mrs Scott hosted a pleasant gathering at Neighbor's House with guests including Maria Beth and others.
Igpree W Stone of Wilmington will occupy the pulpit at Souls Church tomorrow evening in Plainfield. He is a little known orator to many locals but has preached widely in other parts of the country and hopes for a warm Plainfield welcome.
W B Smith and another defendant were bound over for the Grand Jury in bonds of 100 each after a preliminary examination in a Washington police court. Horatio Seymour, a billiard employee, was held as a witness.
