Assailants of Old Man Toms Sentenced in Somerset Court

In Somerville Court Cook and Walker received long terms for brutal assault on elderly man Toms. Judge Bartine termed the crime atrocious and sentenced Cook to seventeen years and a $1000 fine while Walker drew twelve years in state prison.

Sanitarium Relocation Rumor Shakes Plainfield Neighbors

The Wadleigh property on Somerset Street in Danellen near Johnston's drive is slated for a new sanitarium to care for wealthy patients Dr J H Cooley plans a brick structure with grounds improvements including Green Brook He previously faced resident complaints from Sandford Avenue neighbors over noises screams and barred windows while the move to a larger site is negotiated Also covered are local church society events and a water connection request for a prominent resident.

Funeral of Nathaniel P. Bailey on Fordham Heights

The funeral for Nathaniel P. Bailey uncle of Mrs. Charles Amen of Crescent avenue was held at Trinity Chapel West Twenty-fifth Street. Representatives from the Union Club St Nicholas Society Trinity Vestry and New York Hospital governors attended. The Rev Morgan Dix Rev Alban Rickey and Rev T Hott officiated the service. Interment followed in Poughkeepsie.

Lost expedition near Mount St Elias prompts search

Lieut. C. Russell and his party, sent by the Smithsonian to explore Mount St Elias, are feared missing after failing to meet the Corwin at Yakima on September 1. A search was launched but no trace has been found. Also noted is a melodrama on tour and Republican Club delegates returning from Trenton reporting a successful convention.
