A machinist named Lynch was arrested by Officer Kielly for insulting a colored woman on East Front Street. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Judge Codington to thirty days in county jail and a ten dollar fine.
The Plainfield Ice and Cold Storage Company filed articles of incorporation with the County Clerk on Wednesday. The firm will manufacture artificial ice and A. D. Thompson is named as the chief stockholder. D. W. Littell denies rumors about seeking or accepting any city office.
At a regular encampment the following officers were nominated for the next year with election set for December last meeting night. First Team led by Van Emburg and Dr. Allis posted 1520 total to defeat Second Team 1377. Key scores included Teel 145 and Thiers 168 for the victors while Reed 128 and Doane 152 aided the challengers.
From the hydrant at Madison avenue and Eighth street yesterday Steamer No. 2 took suction and threw a fine stream of water under 216 pounds of pressure. The event included the Plainfield Corbet Band and a collation in the Schepflin building on West Front Street. Mayors Gilbert Place and Trenton were expected but did not attend. An illustrated lecture by Rev. D i Davis of Shanghai presented 100 hand painted views at Seventh-day Baptist Church tomorrow at 8. A collection will be taken.
