The Union County Christian Endeavor Fall Conference gathered last evening at the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield with many locals in attendance. President G W Crosa presided as Rev N W Cadwell spoke on unity, a business session elected N R Foster to fill a vacancy, and papers were read by Grace M Gilby and Spencer A Van Der Veer.
Miss Mary A. Harding of Doughty street Raritan and Miss Whitman now of New York visit friends in town. Mrs E. H. Smith and daughter of South Plainfield plan a new cottage on Plainfield avenue. George A. Newman of Orange shared a Japan trip tale to a large YMCA crowd. Asa Collier attended a Jewellers Association event at Delmonico's. Mrs P. Fitzgerald of South Plainfield lies dangerously ill from stairs injuries. Rev L. E. Livermore of New Market Baptist Church injured last week and homebound. Crescent League five men Charlies R Thiers Harry VanEmburg Charles VanWinkle Richard Haven James W. Davis to bowl Rosevilles at Crescent this evening. Remains of Sereb Clark Mundy from Passaic brought back. funeral from Somerset place North Plainfield this afternoon. J. T. Vail clarifies mountain land purchase near Bound Brook is for building sites not a hotel. Emma Day seeks peace.
A packed Casino at Union County Country Club hosts amateur company staging Mrs. Frances Hodgson Burnett’s Esmeralda. Cast includes Cook as Old Man Rogers and Mason as Nora Desmond with praise for stagecraft and mounting. Proceeds expected to net three to four hundred dollars.
Three well known residents Messrs J. Fred MacDonald Nelson Runyon and William H Shotwell executors for the estate of the late Sarah Lattimer escaped fatal injury when a survey wagon attached to their team on South avenue near Netherwood broke loose. The wagon wrecked the harness and rig while the team charged into a vacant lot before being rounded up. Shotwell suffered a sprained ankle and minor head wounds. MacDonald faces about $400 in losses.
A note from Nelson Runyon describes yesterday's runaway accident as exaggerated in Tribune and other New York papers. He confirms the group was thrown out but says the result was not serious. The missive is dated November 20, 1891 and mentions the first grand sociable of Court No 8024 A C F A. of this city at Turner Hall with Prof. Gutt providing music.
Atlas Lodge No. 125 F of Westfield held its regular meeting Monday evening. The third degree was conferred on Edward L. Hann Plains with many brethren present from surrounding towns. Worshipful Master W J W Yeager and Brother Blackford joined from Jerusalem Lodge Plainfield.
