A garbled 1692 column mixes pirates Behring Sea talk with social quips on theology, politics, language, and a joke about a King’s wage. It notes California commissioners appointing a women’s board, a Shakspeare reference, and a play at Music Hall drawing 1100 attendees. It also advertises Alroocq’s Porous Plasters as a household remedy.
A reader’s extract argues from scripture that Jesus and the apostles observed the Sabbath, not a Christian Sunday. It cites Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts to show Jesus healing and teaching on the Sabbath, the temple and David’s actions, and Paul’s early apostolic gatherings on the Sabbath, with a focus on Christ as Lord of the Sabbath.
Fragmentary text traces Paul reasoning with Jews in Thessalonica for three Sabbaths and later joining Priscilla and Aquila in Corinth. It cites Acts chapters and various gospel passages, with scattered notes on early Sunday appearances, crucifixion and resurrection narratives, and travel details among early Christian communities.
