Bergen house raid nets four gamblers and two detainees

Chief Marshal Pangber, Marshal Wilson and Special Marshal Moore led a dawn raid at Bergen's house on Bergen Avenue. Four men were captured while two colored men escaped. The prisoners were arraigned and Bergen jailed awaiting grand jury action, others fined five dollars each. The operation followed a quarrel over gambling for money. a trunk and belongings were moved and the arrested men were identified as Jacob Bergen Henry Vanderveer John Stevens and William Reed.
