Joseph Winkler aged sixty one a track hand for the Lehigh Valley Railroad Company at New Market was run over by a passenger train and instantly killed while at work on the track early this morning. The body was mangled and undertaker Ruhyon conducted the burial arrangements. Deceased left a family.
Bertie Shaw, an eight year old living with his parents on Mason Place, was badly bitten yesterday afternoon by a vicious dog owned by neighbor Owen McCarthy while returning from school. Dr. Boone treated the boy for a deep bite on the left thigh.
At the Winfield Scott Post No 73 G A R encampment, officers were elected for the coming year. Commander William C. Smith and others named include Charles B. Stephens, John Emmons, Andrew Cox, Ed Willis Jr, I. McVoy, William Hand, John E. Stewart, W H Ludlow, W R Moore, and W D W Miller. Installation is planned for the January encampment. In Green Brook near Dunellen, Ephnam R Vail hatched twelve chickens after hens repeatedly nesting. the event draws note as unusual for Somerset county.
Representatives from sixteen insurance companies with policies on the Boire Estate fire met at J. Pope & Co. at eleven this morning to adjust the loss. No decision was reached and the adjournment stands until the committee calls another meeting.
