Democrats Earnest Claims and Public Works Debates
At the opening of Congress last December the Democrats came into power in the House with denunciations of the Republican Billion Dollar Congress. The Fifty-first Congress spent 463 million, the Fifty-second 510 million, including a 50 million River and Harbor bill. They criticize consular cutbacks, lighthouse funds, and accuse the party of unfit leadership, predicting defeat in the Presidency. The piece also notes the opening of streetcar delivery from Brill shops, details car features, and mentions a ten mile road race for a journal trophy with local clubs winning. An advertisement promises kidney and blood cures with a free trial.
