Trackless trolley system explained to Pittston businessmen
A demonstration in Pittston’s Board of Trade room drew many prominent business leaders as Henry W. Dowding of the American Track Trolley Co explained the trackless trolley. The model is battery powered and said to ride over ordinary roadways like an electric interurban, with cars passing each other without stopping. Dowding claimed German and French usage is surpassed by the American design and a Pittston to West Pittston service could take 10 minutes with three cars. Officials plan to obtain cost estimates from the bridge company and electric light firm, with a committee to pursue financing and feasibility.

Justice Brown led the majority with dissent by Fuller Harlan Peckham and Brewer, questioning whether Congress could impose U S law over Hawaiian sovereignty and warning of dangers to civil liberties if the Constitution did not apply. The debate touched on criminal trials, universal rights, and the reach of federal power after annexation.
