Victims include laborers Joseph Hughes John O Neil George Phillips Patrick Sweeny Daniel McNichol Harry McKendal John King James Cavanagh John Leno trackman William Gibbs and engineer James Logg. Hughes severely injured and Gibbs Cavanagh believed to have internal injuries. Engineer Legg reportedly knew of an ahead train before the crash.

Philadelphia September 25 The statement for August 1889 shows gross earnings up 603 025 and net earnings up 483 051 compared with August 1883. Eight months of 1889 over 1838 show gross up 1 168 319 expenses up 710 314 and net up 458 005. West of Pittsburg and Erie totals for eight months 1889 show surplus of liabilities 114 140, continuing the pattern from 1888.
Mrs J G Blaine Jr is seriously ailing with inflammatory rheumatism at Dr Charles A Doremus 92 Lexington Avenue New York. She cannot move without help and is often sedated with morphine. Her sister and two nurses attend her as she deteriorates in bad weather.
In Ixp Brazil on September 25 a mass meeting of striking miners unanimously rejected the operators demand for a 16 cent reduction for the third time. They still seek arbitration and plan mass meetings at Perth and Knightsville to recruit nearly 200 miners to return to work. All district mines have been ordered closed where operators require yearly contracts at last year’s rates.
In OprEssa on September 25 a local teacher named Sause killed himself. His wife, driven insane by grief, murdered their five children and then leaped from a third story window to her death. The report notes the tragedy as a double suicide and mass killing.
A heavy storm pummels the New Jersey coast with high surf and strong winds. Forecasters warn more action may be needed as tides rise and coastal conditions worsen.
Two Southern trains were held up within hours in Buckatunna Mississippi and near Mobile. Robbers disguised in bandannas forced the engineer and fireman to guide the trains to a bridge and opened the mail and express cars. About $70 500 in government funds vanished, while guards and detectives pursued the bandits led by a six foot tall man believed to be Rube Burrows.
A Santa Fe northbound train was robbed near Crowley ten miles south of Fort Worth. Three robbers boarded at Crowley and two joined the locomotive crew. They forced Engineer Monahan and Fireman Crager to stop and cut passengers cars from the rear. One robber claimed $5 000 in silver, while others missed some money packages. The engineer was driven forward and the robbers fled, leaving behind a trail of pilfered valuables.
A forceful method of selling unprofitable stock unfolds in St Louis as Otto F. Oberbeck uses a pistol to compel J Cliff Richardson to buy his National Drug Co stock. The exchange ends with a $500 check and a threatened hold up, shocking business circles.
Frederick D. Wieland, head of the Thomson Houston Electric Light Works, elopes with Mrs. George A. Jones, said to be the handsomest woman in Lynn. The pair, using the name Drummond Vernon, are believed to be in New York. The tale involves an English origins, a recent marriage, and pursuit by the police after Wieland’s wife fled with him.
The warship Lily wrecked off Footear Bay Labrador on September 16 in heavy fog. The Emerald arrived the next day carrying the Captain and crew saved from the Lily. Despite efforts all aboard were lost except rifles and some ammunition.
New York officials expect a unanimous grand jury verdict indicting Sheriff Flack and associates in a divorce case. Indictments will likely accuse Sheriff Flack Will Flack Referee Meeks Civil Justice Monell and Mrs Reynolds alias Raymond of conspiracy to perjure and related perjury charges.
Special Telegram reports Nell cottage in Atlantic City vacant with a front sign reading For Rent. Mrs. Robert Hamilton, who stabbed Nurse Donnelly and was sentenced to two years in State prison, left the house deserted. details about Beatrice and other persons could not be learned.
