Fatal Rail Crash Reports Conflicting Signals and Dead Beginnings
A rear passenger car was crushed with its occupants trapped by exposed engine parts and a dangling trunk. Rescue teams moved victims to an emergency hospital as flames emerged and the dead were identified, including Kitcen-S J Sullivan and L Av Raymond. The crash sparked repair of signals and questions over whether the freight engineer could stop the 30-car train. E J Matthews of Philadelphia, a syndicate member, arrived in town to discuss railway matters and land development.
