Controller's Car Tax Bill Postponed Indefinitely
Public Works Committee approves an ordinance to use the Fifth Avenue Market House as a High School annex with a 99 year lease to the Central Board of Education. Mayor to sign next Monday. Chief Brown and supporters favor the lease, Bigelow opposing but seldom fighting. Residents say market space is better for education than an armory and that leasing avoids higher land costs for a school. Central Board needs larger quarters. Market House could serve offices and a large hall for meetings. Vehicle tax ordinance was laid over indefinitely along with several street and sewer projects across multiple streets.
