Jennings’ Wall Street undertaking place used a hidden rear room with Miss Hattie Lumberado for secret trysts after hours. Police investigation followed discovery of light behind curtains and Bouton’s denial. The couple, identified by authorities, were confronted as the shop door was forced open and Bouton faced questioning while Miss Lumberado was found in hiding.
A telegram from Indianapolis warned Evangelical delegates in Philadelphia that Bowmanite foes plan to seize deserted churches after ending Indiana conferences. The alert suggests future contests for pulpits as rival factions press for control amid the church split.

The firm claims it will meet all obligations dollar for dollar and lists producing wells and real estate as assets in Washington and Armstrong counties.
Charleston October 2 A meeting of sea island cotton planters gathered in Charleston with attendees from John James Ediston and Wadmalow Islands. The group concluded that combining to block sea island cotton seed sales was impracticable and the project was abandoned.
