Thirty prisoners appeared before the bar with seven sent to the workhouse. Patrick Welsh and John Bits received 30 days. Norman Jacobs and Lizzie Davis ten days. James Clinton 30 days. John Kennedy discharged after a drunken incident. Dennis McGinley and Pat Hanlon were main offenders with ten days each. others received light sentences for common drunks and disorderly conduct.

Washington reports a push in Congress for a Postal Savings Bank system with English models adapted to aid the poor. Horace J. Smith of Philadelphia leads the drive with support from the Knights of Labor and the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. The plan includes stamp cards for children and options via savings, annuities, or government stock, seeking government oversight and state or bank transmission of deposits. The piece also previews coal industry exhibits proposed for the 1892 St Louis Chicago World’s Fair, led by H. A. Bischoff and Stanley Waterloo.
The Dennis Meagher stabbing trial in Lawrenceville led to a delayed new trial bid and bail set under $1,000. Meagher fled to New York. officials petitioned Harrisburg and Governor Beaver for requisition papers, who signaled bail is valid in another state. District Attorney Porter plans immediate measures to secure Meagher’s return.
In Allegheny the Federal Street electric car 4 suffered a mishap as it stopped for a reversal. Passengers Eugene Mammaux and Mammaux’s companion were shocked when brass dash handles arced. Eugene’s nephew Isaac was only slightly hurt, others were frightened and departed the car. Eugene Mammaux, sick recently, lives on South Avenue and works at Pittsburg Water Proof Company on Liberty Street.
