A violent wind and rainstorm yesterday morning wrecked a new hotel at 702 West Carson street in the West End, injuring Mrs. Poppers who nearly was buried in debris. Allegheny electric light towers were blown down and fires started by downed wires. Exposition Park buildings suffered damage and several Southside schools dismissed amid storm panic. Telecommunication with other cities was disrupted and rain persisted with forecasts of warmer air and river rises in the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers.
A severe hurricane storm battered the West End yesterday morning. Mrs Margaret Peppers buried in bricks and mortar when a second story wall collapsed onto the Peterson building. She is reported near death with a broken nose and possible internal injuries. Damage to the Peterson dwelling and store is extensive with losses around 1800 dollars. Building inspector Brown says the Grimm building must be torn down to first story and fault lies with improper bracing and contractor risk taking.
A telegram to Coroner McDowell from Squire Love of Coulbaseville reports a boy found dead after the storm. No other details were given and the coroner will reopen inquiry today. Southside suffered little damage and the area saw limited impact from the storm.
